Holy Trinity 6-8                  Scoil Mobhi 6-8

After a gripping contest on Thursday afternoon, our senior boys footballers were left to share the spoils in their opening game of the year against a gallant Scoil Mobhi side.

Holy Trinity showed early promise to their season, and scintillating first-half goals from Rhys Costello and Aaron Dalton had the boys ahead at the break. The scoreboard reflected the efforts out the field from such players as Scott Ramsey, Tom McCann and Brady Lee-Doyle. Sam Walsh was equally solid between the posts.

The second half saw the visitors gather some momentum and they put their noses in front going into the last stretch of the game. However, heroic performances from Christopher Mulligan, Reece Curley and captain Eoin Abernethey paved the way for a mighty comeback.

With seconds left on the clock, and the boys still three points in arrears, a high floating ball landed in the hands of target-man James Long, and in one swift turn he clinically dispatched the ball into the back of the Scoil Mobhi net. Ramsey had a chance to seal victory will a free kick at the death but was unlucky to see it tail just wide.

It was an extremely positive start from the boys, with great attitude, resilience and heart shown by one and all. The team will now look forward to their next game in a week’s time.
