Tree Day 2020

By | 22nd October 2020

Tetra Pak Tree Day 2020 took place on 1 October this year and the pupils of Holy Trinity SNS enjoyed learning about the native Irish trees on our school grounds (check out the photos below).

This year’s Tree Day theme was “Be A Force For Nature!” (“Bí i do fórsa don nádúir!”) which focuses on the things we can do in our everyday lives to help nature and our environment.

Ms Baker discussed the importance of planting more Irish Native Trees with the Green School’s Committee- Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen and help reduce the risk of climate change. They also provide shelter and food for birds, insects and animals.

Our school was also kindly sent a Scot’s Pine tree for our school grounds and our Green School’s Committee enjoyed learning about this native Irish tree.

Our GSC also audited the trees on our grounds using a swatch of Irish Trees and Shrubs to identify them from their leaves, branches, seeds and acorns. We aim to plant more native Irish trees in school this year.
