Holy Trinity senior boys took on Terenure college in the final of the Sciath Cumann na Geal on Monday November 4th in Croke Park.
Holy Trinity took the lead with an early point by Craig Yeates, only to be followed by a goal from Terenure. It was a very close first half with each team scoring one after another. Gavin Clifford scored a great goal for Holy Trinity at the end of the first half, to give them a 3 point lead at the break.
The crowd roared from the Cusack stand for every Holy Trinity score which really encouraged the players to try their absolute hardest in the game.
Trinity came out second half all guns blazing. It was an amazing second half from both teams. Ciaran Brennan saved multiple shots on goal, and Jack Roche took a ball out of the air from a Terenure free, to stop Terenure going ahead. The Holy Trinity senior boys footballers, coached by David Henry former Dublin Captain and Dermot Ryan, (both teachers in the school) never gave up even when falling behind.
You could cut the atmosphere with a knife in the closing minutes when Terenure had a number of frees to level the match but Holy Trinity held on for a fantastic one point victory.
The final score was 4-13 to 6-6 with Gavin Clifford scoring 1-8, Craig Yeates scoring 2-1, John Reilly scoring 0-3, Dylan Fowler scoring 1-0 and Chad Brennan scoring 0-1. Stand out performances by Gavin Clifford, Ciaran Brennan, Arron O’Mahony and Lewis Byrne. My man of the match was Craig Yeates.
Being presented with the Sciath Cumann na Gael trophy was a very proud moment for the whole team.
