Spring planting

By | 23rd March 2021

Lots of planting going on this week across the school, as we get our organic garden reading for the summer. On Friday, the Green Schools Committee planted kale, carrots, cauliflower, beans, chilli, sweetcorn, peppers, tomatoes, courgette and cucumber in modular trays. We look forward to watching their progress in the polytunnel over the coming months.

The GSC also planted a wildflower bed along the school on Monday. This will be a welcome addition to our pollinator friendly plants on the school grounds. We will monitor the pollinators that come to visit this summer. Our wildflowers we planted last Spring 2020 were a great hit with bees, ladybirds and butterflies.

Mr Ryan’s 3rd class also planted some cornflower seeds, which will be a welcome addition to our pollinator-friendly plants this summer.

Mr O Grady’s 6th class and Ms McCarthy’s 3rd have also been busy planting beetroot, cress and peas. Once these have germinated, they will be transplanted to the polytunnel.

We also planted some pansies in the pots by the entrance to the lobby with Mr Grogan. It’s really brightened up our school for Spring!
