National Tree Week, organised by the Tree Council since 1985 and in partnership with Coillte since 1989, is a week long programme of events to celebrate all things trees. This year it ran from 21-27 March.
The pupils of Holy Trinity really enjoyed getting outdoors during the lovely Spring weather, whilst learning about the wonderful array of trees we have on our school grounds. Here are Ms Kelly’s 4th class investigating trees and estimating their age by measuring the trunk. Rumour has it, they’re almost as old as Mr Henry!

As part of tree week, each class was assigned a native Irish tree to plant. So far, this year, we have planted a Scot’s Pine, 3 Birch trees, 2 Oaks, 7 Rowan/ Mountain Ash, 3 White Willow, a Holly tree and a Whitebeam and we’re just getting started. These native trees will provide habitats for insects and birds, as well as lichen and other microorganisms, essential to ecosystems. Our Green School Committee are working hard to preserve and create habitats in efforts to ensure Biodiversity.
