Croke Park Final – Boy’s Match Report by Mr. Henry

By | 27th October 2016

It was edge-of-the-seat stuff in Croke Park on Wednesday afternoon, but the boys’ senior football team showed real guts and determination to seal the victory in the Sciath Chumann na nGael and complete the double for Holy Trinity.

To say we did it the hard way is an understatement! Playing against a formidable Baile Eoin side, we battled bravely but still found ourselves one point down at the break. The scoreline could so easily have had a different complexion had our opponents not kept out fine efforts from Alex Kinsella and Cian Rodgers.

The concession of two early second half goals left the boys with a seven-point deficit to claw back. Fifteen minutes remained and there was a mountain to climb; not one player shied away from the challenge! Led by the heroics of Ross Tierney and Brian Cooney in the middle, we took control of the game. Fine goals from Scott Ramsey and Ethan Dalton were the product of hard work all over the field. Anthony Jackson was immense in goal, while Nikita Bolkins showed the hundreds of supporters why he is known as the ‘brick wall’!

At the final whistle there were scenes of jubilation as classmates, teammates and friends embraced. In the middle of all the madness, our boys showed admirable sportsmanship to console opposition players – a touch of class! The icing was put on the cake at the day’s end when captain Eoin Kiernan raised the shield aloft to the roars of the supporting crowd.

Time to make space in the trophy cabinet…two new visitors have joined the school!
